Study Abroad in Salamanca: Cultural Excursions

London, England (3 days)

Included only for students on the optional AIFS Flight Package

Get to know your fellow students before traveling to campus and take a sightseeing tour with a professional guide who will point out some of London’s famous landmarks including Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament and the Tower of London. You will also have free time to visit museums, see a play or stroll in London’s beautiful parks.

Includes accommodations, breakfast, entrance fees and sightseeing as indicated. Lunch and dinner are not included.

Madrid (2 days)

Included only for students on the optional AIFS Flight Package

Fly from London to Madrid and enjoy free time to explore the city.

The next day, take a sightseeing tour of the city center including the Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol and the Paseo de la Castellana before transferring by bus to Salamanca.

Segovia (day trip)

Take a morning drive through the Spanish countryside to Segovia. Walk through the narrow cobblestone streets to the 2,000-year-old Roman aqueduct, a marvel of Roman engineering and one of the best-preserved aqueducts in all of Europe. Enjoy breathtaking views of this ancient city from the towers of the fairytale castle “El Alcazar.” City walking-tour includes visits to the Plaza Mayor and the Cathedral. Early evening return to Salamanca.

La Alberca and Riomalo (day trip)

Included in program fee for students on the 6-week program only

Visit the quaint village of La Alberca, one of the most beautiful pueblos in Spain and the first to be declared a “national monument” in 1940. After, enjoy Riomalo natural pools; swimming and relaxing by the river. Evening return to Salamanca.

Optional excursion to Lisbon, Portugal (3 days–$475)

Depart for Lisbon and enjoy a visit to the Boca do Inferno with its impressive views. Free evening to explore Lisbon’s lively nightlife.

The next day, visit the sights of Lisbon with a local guide. View the Monument of the Discoverers, Alfama district, Rossio Square, the sweeping suspension bridge, St. George’s Castle and Jeronimos Monastery. Afternoon free to wander the cobbled alleys and squares of old Lisbon.

On day three, take a morning excursion to the Portuguese coast, visiting Estoril and the fishing village of Cascais before returning to Salamanca.

Fee includes transportation, accommodations, breakfast, sightseeing and entrances as indicated. Students must enroll and pay for this excursion by April 15. Students who apply after the deadline may enroll subject to availability. If a minimum enrollment of 15 is not achieved, the tour may be cancelled. Once paid for in the U.S. optional excursions are non-refundable except in the event of cancellation.
