Study Abroad in Granada: Academics
4-week program
Students select from the Intensive Spanish Language Course or the Spanish Language and Culture Course. The Intensive Spanish Language Course consists of one 5-credit language course plus one 1-credit optional course (if desired). The Spanish Language and Culture Course consists of one 3-credit language course plus two 1-credit Spanish content classes. Students on Intensive Spanish Language Course may also choose one of the content courses from the Spanish Language and Culture Course. Intermediate, advanced or upper advanced level students have the option of taking either the Intensive Spanish Language Course, or the Spanish Language and Culture Course. Please note that selection may be limited according to scheduling conflicts. A final schedule will not be available until around May 15, 2012. Add/drop is permitted during the first 3 days of class.
6-week program
After completing a 4-week course in either the Intensive Spanish Language course or the Spanish Language and Culture course, 6-week students continue to perfect their Spanish language abilities in a 2-week Intensive Spanish Language program. Students may earn up to an additional 3.5 semester credits in this program. Recommended credits are in parentheses. Students will be tested on the first day of this course and placed into one of four levels. Within each of the four levels are 2 sublevels. Spanish language classes meet 20 hours per week for two weeks. An optional class of conversation practice is offered for an additional 10 hours (5 hours per week for 2 weeks).
Attendance
Students exceeding the permitted numbers of unexcused absences may lose all or partial credit.
Grades
No AIFS participant is permitted to take a course without receiving a letter grade. Pass/Fail grade options are not available.
