Hallo! I've been the Resident Director here in Stellenbosch since 2003 and I previously worked in the International Office handling student accommodations. I received both my BA degree in Psychology and a post-graduate diploma in Education from Stellenbosch University, and am continuing postgraduate studies in psychology towards a Ph.D. so I am very familiar with where you will be studying and living.

I have previously worked as a high school English teacher, a tour guide for Americans visiting South Africa and also in a school and home for disabled and disadvantaged children and adults. I am a bit of a traveler myself and have visited many countries in Europe and Africa. I was captain of the under-21 South African hockey team and had a field hockey contract in the Netherlands where I lived and played hockey for 3 seasons.

The office is right in the middle of the campus; only a 5 minute walk from the Student Center and shops, feel free to drop by and say "hallo!" Students refer to me as "Mama H" – their mother away from home! I'm here to help you adjust, to experience and respect a new culture, and to guide you into one of the most fulfilling and meaningful experiences of your life.

The Resident Director provides academic advice, introduces you to the community and handles communication with the University.

 

AIFS Campus Staff with First Aid Training

Because health and safety are top priorities at AIFS, at least one member of the staff at this campus has taken a first aid course in order to be available to help any student until a doctor or nurse can provide help. This is just one of many services that we provide to our students.
