Study Abroad in Paris: Housing and Meals

Choose to live in an Apartment Hotel or in a Parisian home carefully selected by the Resident Director. Homestays are limited and not guaranteed. Students in this option are advised to apply early.

Apartment Hotel

The Adagio Paris XV hotel is located opposite the Porte de Versailles Exhibition Centre and is just a few minutes by public transport from the center of Paris. The metro is close in proximity and it takes a maximum of 30 minutes to get to the AIFS office or classrooms by bus or metro.

You will stay in a two roomed apartment with three students per apartment. There are two individual beds in one room and in the living room there is a pull out sofa bed. Both rooms can be separated by a sliding door for privacy. The rooms are recently renovated and are bright with light wooden panels but are not air conditioned. The kitchenette is separated from the living room by a counter and is equipped with a fridge, dishwasher, microwave, stovetop, ventilation system, dishes, pots and an excellent selection of kitchen utensils. There is a table and chairs for eating or working. All rooms have a TV and a direct line telephone. In the bedroom there is a desk and safe to keep precious items. There is a bathroom and separate toilet. The rooms are cleaned and sheets and towels are changed once a week.

Wi-Fi is available in all rooms providing standard internet access and students have the use of two washing machines (5 euros per wash) and one dryer (2.5 euros per use) in the building.

You will receive a meal allowance for breakfast and lunch or dinner from Monday through Friday. This is a subsidy and will not cover the cost of meals in expensive restaurants. An optional buffet breakfast is served in the lounge everyday for 10 euros and is at the student’s own expense.

There are no singles or doubles available.

Homestay

You will stay in a single or twin room in an apartment where your hosts provide a typical French breakfast seven days a week and you will receive a meal allowance towards dinner from Monday to Friday. You will have your own key and can come and go as you wish. There is privacy for study, yet a certain amount of contact with the Parisian hosts. You are likely to be housed with a single woman or professional couple. Students are seldom housed with families with young children.

In many homes, you will only have the use of the bedroom, bathroom and limited use of the kitchen. Parisian hosts do not usually allow free use of the entire apartment. It is important to understand the differences between American hospitality to foreign students and renting a room from a host in Paris. Most Europeans provide housing to foreign students for commercial reasons. Students should not assume they will be included in the daily life of their Parisian hosts. Most rooms are based on double occupancy. You may request a single but this cannot be guaranteed.

Students choosing the Homestay option are advised to apply early. Homestays are limited and not guaranteed. Allocated accommodation will be confirmed near the U.S. departure date. All students will be charged for the Apartment Hotel option and will receive credit if and when the homestay is confirmed.

AIFS always arranges the best accommodation available for students. Changes in housing will be considered only in the event of health and safety issues.
