Study Abroad in Sydney & Fiji: Living Abroad

Visas

Students must obtain a mandatory visa for entry into Australia. Apply directly to the Australian consulate. All students apply online at www.immi.gov.au. Visas are not required in Fiji for U.S. citizens.

Transportation

AIFS provides a public transportation pass which you will use frequently for the half-hour bus ride to the city center.

Volunteering in the local community

The local community is not the only beneficiary of your volunteer work. Volunteering can mean increased self-esteem, feeling appreciated for doing a worthwhile job and bringing new meaning to your life. A volunteer experience can teach you about yourself, current issues, government services and the local community.

You can make a difference while you are in Sydney and help make this corner of the world a happier, healthier, safer place to live for those who need your help. You can work alone or with locals, at home or in the community, on your own schedule. You set the hours and choose the job that you want to do.

Full details of the volunteer program will be given during orientation.

Insurance

The Australian government requires foreign students to pay for mandatory health coverage (Overseas Student Health Charge). Included in the AIFS fees, this is paid directly to the provider, OSHC Worldcare, by Macquarie.
